10 ways to find happiness, and how to actually do it

The most important thing in life is to be happy. At the end of the day, does anything really matter if you had a good day or not? Being happy can help turn your bad day into a good one, or just help you start your morning off on the right foot. Psychology today shared a blog post featuring 10 ways to find more happiness in your life. I’d day that almost 9/10 of those ways seemed like legitimate sources of finding happiness.

  1. Reach out to others: this is true. Why not reach out to those you love and make plans with them. Even if its not to make plans, hearing the voice of people who are special to you can help remind you of the things you love in life and why you should be thankful to have them.
  2. Happiness is an onside job: while they are things that can seem like they can ruin your day, you have the power in your mind to turn it around and not let it affect you.
  3. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket: much like number two, you can let yourself rely on only one thing for happiness. Try new things and have new experiences and you will feel joy.
  4.  Trust your gut: do what you feel is right and you will be happy, don’t let others influence what you are truly feeling.
  5. Is meditation for you?: while I don’t meditate, nor have I ever I’m sure this would be something beneficial to try out. If you feel anxious or overwhelmed this may help be an outlet to clearing your stress away leading to more happiness. This can go hand in hand with trying something new .
  6.  organize your thoughts: much like meditation, this will be an opportunity to clear your mind and help you feel more free which can lead to more happiness.
  7.  stay away from people who bring you down: of course this is true! I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and nit bring you down. Its hard to always fight off bad energy and feelings when you are constantly surrounded by it. Free yourself from negative people in your life in the pursuit of finding happiness!
  8. Look at the big picture: even if you feel like the world is against you sometimes, take a step back and see how truly lucky you are to have everything you need and probably even more.
  9. Value your values: know what you stand up for and be proud of it. Never be ashamed of what’s important to you.
  10. Play more: with work, school, and jobs filling up a lot of your time don’t forget to enjoy some free moments of life. It’s super important to relieve stress and have fun. Make time for it in your daily routine.
